A faint region filled with Ionized hydrogen gas, glowing fluorescent from the nearby starlight. Presented in "Hubble Palette" this areas is naturally a uniform red due to the concentration and abundance of hydrogen, but by using special filters the much fainter blues from ionized oxygen are revealed as well!
For those of you interested, the raw data from this shot has been uploaded to my dropbox associated with my patreon account, so you too can learn how these images go from unprocessed data to a final image, an important part of learning astrophotography.
The size indicated is the "leaf size", which will include a 1/2" white border for handling and framing.
