"The Magnetic Field of Our Active Sun" by Andrew McCarthy
Available on Metal or Archival Rag paper. Prints are digitally signed and only a limited number of each size and material will be manufactured.
This false color view of our local star reveals an incredibly dynamic atmopshere. Planet-sized arcs of plasma pull away from the surface, caught in the magnetic loops spawned from volatile active regions and sunspots. This image was captured using a precisely tuned telescope designed to handle the immense heat generated when focusing the sun's rays, giving us a detailed look at the activity that occurs over our heads.
This image was shortlisted for Royal Museums Greenwich's prestigious "Astrophotographer of the Year" Award.
For paper prints, the size indicated is the "leaf size", which will include a 1" white border for handling and framing. The frame is a molded wood with acrylic cover, including a simple white matting.
Metal prints are fabricated using a proprietary printing process that boasts a non-reflective surface that allows for the deepest display of color and contrast available for print. The image is printed right to the edge of the material.
