A newly remastered release of the award winning image, "The International Space Station Transiting Tranquility Base" won the coveted "People in Space" category from the Astrophotographer of the Year award from the Royal Museum Greenwich. This image shows the International Space Station perfectly centered over the Apollo 11 landing site, known as Tranquility Base.
These shots are planned weeks in advance, and require scouting a location along the path of transit, and setting up hours in advance to check seeing conditions against the forecast to make sure it is possible to resolve clear details on the station. This was captured using multiple telescopes and cameras, to simultaneously capturing the up-close shot of the station (which uses a monochrome camera) as well as the colors of the lunar regolith, which required a camera not capable of the same speeds. The final image shows both the moon and the silhouette of the station in striking detail.
The sizes indicated is the "leaf" size, the unframed printincludes a small white border for handling and framing, and the framed print will be slightly larger due to the thickness of the frame and include a small matting.
